dilly's bike

I met up with the art director at Random House last week so she could go through my portfolio and talk about doing a picture book, although I didn't walk away with a deal I did come away with some very usefull hints and tips, all in all quite positive. So I'm now working on this little chap, a character she spotted in my sketchbook and liked, I think. Going to work on a few more ideas around him and post them up as I go.

wedding invite

normally this kind of thing is a drag, but i really enjoyed doing this, mainly because the couple are good friends and lovely people but also they came to me with a clear idea, an image and wanting something a bit different. Folksy, festival, beer, hops and sunflowers. Looking forward to it!

Dave In Space!

Been bogged down with a new project for a kids TV show (annoyingly more work for which I have signed an NDA and so cannot post any of it) Finally got round to finishing this for a mate today though, a cover for a board game he's working on.

Relentless art show 2010

It must be nearly May because The Relentless Art Show is back for the third year running and we can’t wait. 14 of us are showing new work as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival and you can see our new creations between 1st and 23rd May.
Entrance is free so come down and let us know what you think. We’re at the
Bellis Gallery (8 – 9 Kings Road, Brighton) between 10.30 and 6.30 every day except Sunday when we’re open from 11.30 to 5.30. And we’re closed on Tuesdays.

Ambiance - work in progress

Inspired by the Ambiances of Brighton this is basically a portrait of our flat, Dillon and Hugo are waiting for some grub. Will post again when Ive done a little more, it may end up in a sunny meadow, or a post apocalyptic desert, hmmmm i don't know, suggestions please if you can be bothered!

Moon

I hate the way all space marines post "Alien" have remained basically the same, enter Marcus Fenix, so Ive been working on an idea for a while of one based on the materials of 70's TV cameras. The 3D stuff hasn't gained much momentum so I just coloured in one of my concepts for the upcoming Relentless art show

Dootsy doodle

Had a day of meetings today, this was my most productive moment, a small doodle of my youngest, happiest, smile-iest son Hugo. Ruddy bike's got a puncture AGAIN! Damn Brighton council and their gritting, grrr!

Lion Stick

so much for the daily sketch! my excuse is my bike kept breaking and it took up all my lunch hours getting it fixed, honest. anyway here's another one of dillon with his favorite, most irritating toy, lion stick.

Vehicular doodling

Saw this down our road this morning, don't know what it is, van, bus, people carrier? Anyway it had cute proportions so I nabbed it with my eye balls for later. Only spent 15 Min's on this though due to a debacle at the bike shop that took up all my lunch hour, so its a little uncontrolled and wonky, in the bad sense.

Doggy Neckerchief

After the Relentless exhibition I kind of fell off the wagon a bit with regards to drawing, got burnt out. Also I've been doing a lot of concept stuff at work so I've been getting my satisfaction from that, frustratingly I can't post that yet so for now I'm taking a leaf out of Crowpies book and doing a daily sketch. Try to keep it quick as well, I got too caught up trying to do complete pictures last time and lost track of just drawing for the sake of it. I finished this one off this morning, its from a biro doodle on lined paper, about 5 cm tall, often my best work. Its my oldest son, Dillon, love you Dills X
